How can we design a safe bike lane, which focuses on the needs of the users between Karaköy and Kabataş with the participants of different stakeholders?
We organized two-days co-design workshop within the event series of the “Designing Our Livable Cities Together” host by Consulate General of the Netherlands in İstanbul. We came together 20 professionals from different backgrounds such as municipalities, creative professionals, academicians and bike lane design experts from the Netherlands to design safe bike lane between two districts in Istanbul.
We started our workshop with cycling between selected two locations with the participant of Consul General Bart van Bolhuis and the mayor of Beyoğlu municipality Mr. Ahmet Misbah Demircan and all tall workshop participants. After experiencing cycling on the selected route we came together to discuss possibilities and obstacles of location.
Participants came up with different ideas and approaches at the end of the two days workshop such as physical bike parking area, social media campaign and mobile application for renting but the most important thing is we learned how to human-centered design with users and multi-disciplinary team.
